About the Royal Family of Mudhol

The State of Mudhol was an independent principality prior to Independence. It was a formidable state of the Southern Maratha Country (SMC) having its capital at Mudhol. The erstwhile ruler H.H. Bhairavsinh Malojirao Ghorpade - The Rajesaheb of Mudhol, succeeded his father to the Gadi in 1939 at the age of ten.

Mudhol was a 9-gun salute state, and the rulers were conferred the hereditary title of Raja. The principality acceded to the Dominion of India on the 8th of March 1948 and is currently situated in the State of Karnataka.

The Rajesaheb of Mudhol served in the Poona Horse regiment of the Armed Corps in the Indian Army. He served in the wars of 65 and 71. The Rajesaheb tragically died in a car accident in 1984 and is survived by his only child Menkaraje Maurya nee Ghorpade.

H.H. Menkaraje was diagnosed with a rare blood condition in the year 2000, which surprisingly went undiagnosed by most clinicians of Pune despite showing severe symptoms.

The frustration due to the inconsistency of medical facilities and diagnosis, got her husband Vijaysinh Maurya, determined to start a Patient-Centric hospital at Pune. Together, they resolved to make a difference and set up a world class healthcare facility on their ancestral land/s at Ghorpade Peth, Pune.
